A REPORT ON NUTRITION DAY CELEBRATION BY FIRST YEAR GNM STUDENTS.

A NUTRITIONAL PROGRAMME

HEAL WITH MEAL

1ST YEAR BSC NURSING 2022-23

As part of nutritional programme, we the students of 1st year BSc nursing conducted a programme “ HEAL WITH MEAL” on 27/11/2023 and 28/11/2023 respectively .

Students were made into 6 groups and given different topics and was told to prepare 6 different types of Meal planning for different disease condition. Topics were as follows:

  1. DIET FOR CARDIOVASCULAR DISEASE
  2. DIET FOR RENAL DISEASE
  3. DIET FOR DIABETES MELLITUS
  4. DIET FOR HYPERTENSION
  5. DIET FOR ANEMIA
  6. DIET FOR OBESITY

Students prepared varieties of food according to respective diet .

  • Group1 had been given the diet preparation of ‘CARDIOVASCULAR DIEASES’ in which they prepared a menu of food which restricted mainly oil, fat, sugar, and salt and included soft and nutritious foods which is beneficial for patients’ health.
  • Group2 had the diet preparation ‘RENAL DISEASE’ in which they prepared food which restricted the amount of sodium, potassium, phosphorous and diet included more protein which essential for an person with kidney disease.
  • Group3 had the diet preparation on ‘DIABETES MELLITUS’ for which they prepared low sugar diet for keeping a patient’s blood sugar level at a normal range. We made a diet which focused on mainly proteins and fats.
  • Group4 had the diet preparation ‘HYPERTENSION’ students prepared a diet which included low sodium food. Mainly their goal was to decrease the sodium level in food thereby avoiding chances of getting further health issues.
  • Group5 prepared a diet for ‘ANEMIC PATIENTS’. Anemia is mainly caused by deficiency of iron in Blood. They prepared foods which increased the iron content in body. Their diet included green leafy vegetables, fruits etc.

  • Group 6 prepared a one-day meal planning for ‘OBESITY’ which restricted carbohydrates and fats and mainly included protein rich foods, vegetables and pulses.

The prepared diet plan was displayed and students were presented their diet preparation in front of judges and teachers. Students have answered to the question which was asked during presentation. Judges have complimented and praised the students for their work.

The programme ‘HEAL WITH MEAL’ was a great success as we students got an opportunity to learn about diseases and their necessary diet plan in a very enjoyable manner. Principal, Administrator Officer, our HODs, lecturers and our friends were all present for the programme, they have guided us all the way till the end of programme.

At end of day, students had shared the food with each other which they had prepared together.

The programme was a great experience and informative.
